WE WANT TO BELIEVE IN A BETTER WORLD
Otefal will assign the amount traditionally meant for Christmas presents to the support of some projects, such as:
- the renovation of the “Gianna Beretta Molla” primary school, in Brazil led by the ONLUS foreign Missions of Capuchin friars in Milan.
The structure is located in TunTum, a small village of about 40,000 inhabitants in the State of Maranhao to the North-East of Brazil, one of the poorest areas of the nation.
The school located in the proximity of the parish church dedicated to Saint Anthony and managed by Capuchin fathers is attended by ca. 230 pupils. It is intended to cover the school range of primary education (according to the Brazilian school system, one pre-school year and five primary-school years).
The school requires a series of urgent maintenance operations that are absolutely necessary to guarantee the continuation of this important social mission. A lot of works are required and all of them are exacting (whole remake of covering, frames, the electric and hydraulic installation, tiling in all the internal rooms, renovation of the school equipment, internal and external whitewashing …).
The importance of the school in the quarter is fundamental since it enables a lot of families to educate their own children, which otherwise they could not afford.
The area is a low-class one and there are a lot of families having a low income or no income at all. To provide the local youth with some basic education means giving them a hope of greater success in life within a difficult and complex society, such as the Brazilian one.
As a matter of fact, education is one of the fundamental keys for a sustainable development in the Southern Countries of the world and we consider it as our duty to take part in initiatives widespreading it.
- the realisation of a water supply system in Ethiopia through the CVM (Community of Volunteers for the World) association. Ethiopia is the state with the most serious drought problems all over the world. To supply the Wolaita population to the south of Addis Ababa with water means enabling it to survive.
- the realisation of homes for the Allipalli mission families in India engaging the association of peace operators in Seriate (BG). We offer a dwelling-place to give them a shelter and support necessary for a decorous life.
By supplying our contribution, we undertake to believe in a better world and – who knows – perhaps we will also be able to give the children of these unlucky countries a better future or even just a smile as a present...

20th FEBRUARY 2007: FIRST UPDATE OF THE REFURBISHMENT PROJECT
OF THE PRIMARY SCHOOL IN BRASIL.
Father Mauro is happy to inform us that the rooms of the school have already been refurbished:
covering in ceramics of the walls, complete recovering of the floor, celling and roof.
They have also been working on the corridors and the small auditorium, soon they will also
proceed with work on the perimeter wall, the courtyards and the entrance.
16th MAY 2007: THE REFURBISHMENT ARE FINISHED.
The refurbishment of the school in Brasil are finished. Finally the children of TunTum have a place where they can build their future.
