Thinking different
Otefal operates in the field of coatings, and has developed through constant innovation, not just technological but also in sales and marketing procedures. Otefal S.p.A. was founded in L'Aquila in 1988, and is specialised in coil coating painting systems on aluminium. From the factory in L'Aquila, around 3,000 tons come out each month of aluminium strips and sheets painted with powders or liquids.
Beginning with the innovative powder coil coating, Otefal's development policy based on 'thinking differently' has brought technical and commercial investments such as the purchase of new systems in Cagliari, Lodi and St Chamond (F), the set up of distribution centres in both Europe and the rest of the world, and the sales of specialised coil coating engineering throughout the world.
The coil coating sector is traditionally occupied by large multinationals who consider prepainting aluminium sheet as a means to penetrate, with limited added value, into large volume markets, considering the product almost as a commodity.
This monopolistic and simplistic policy leaves those market segments uncovered that require special, diversified coating, which requires greater flexibility in planning and delivery.
The L'Aquila factory managed to enter this segment, belying the banal ideal that coil coating is just a mass production item to be performed at utmost speed.
As always, behind the success is the "thinking different" policy. This different thought is initially expressed in the creation of a special line for a new "niche" product, Mirawall (first powder coil coating in the world) and then an extremely agile production/distribution/service system to respond to the needs of the market segments that were poorly served by mass production. The second recent liquid coil coating line has been included in this marketing system, specialised in frequent and rapid colour changes: more traditional technology, but prepared and presented to the market in a very innovative manner. |
